Introduction and Context
To bridge the literacy gaps and foster a more inclusive learning environment, the initiative to develop the Patnubay sa Pagbasa reference materials was set into motion. Spearheaded by Proponent Lourdes L. Matan, this critical project aimed to produce contextualized reading and literacy resources tailored specifically for Multigrade teachers and Key Stage 1 learners.
The endeavor culminated in a rigorous five-day live-in workshop held from May 30 to June 3, 2025, at the scenic Mondejares Puertes Beach Resort. The serene venue provided the ideal backdrop for a highly collaborative assembly of the Patnubay sa Pagbasa team, which brought together passionate writers, demonstration teachers, videographers, layout artists, and a dedicated Quality Assurance (QA) Team.
The Journey: Logistics, Management, and Methodology
The success of the five-day workshop was the fruit of extensive preparation. Prior to the main event, the management team conducted a series of internal convergence meetings and in-house workshops. A formal project innovation proposal was drafted and successfully approved by the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) Chief and the Schools Division Superintendent. To secure solid financial backing, personal consultations were made with the finance team, successfully funding the project through the Continuing Multigrade Funds after undergoing the standard BAC process. Technical logistics were also meticulously planned, including a prior ocular visit to the venue to ensure the availability of a “green room” and a quiet environment free from ambient noise for high-quality video production.
During the event, the Patnubay sa Pagbasa management team, alongside CID personnel and the Project Management Team (PMT), smoothly directed the workshop’s workflow. School heads diligently followed up on milestones, while master teachers stepped in to assess and refine the initial drafts.
The team utilized a diverse, hands-on methodology. Learning and production were achieved through face-to-face interactions, community immersion, and intensive tutorial sessions. The team also leveraged technology, using Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)—some conducted virtually to provide urgent Technical Assistance—and maximizing email communication for seamless digital access to the materials.
Triumphs and Deliverables
Despite a demanding schedule, the collective synergy of the development team yielded highly productive results:
- 100% Book Completion: The team successfully developed and quality-assured all 8 targeted books, spanning a comprehensive total of 28 modules, all now rendered camera-ready for printing.
- Lesson Plan Exemplars: A total of 15 lesson plan exemplars were completed on-site. To maximize output given the limited time and personnel, the remaining exemplars were scheduled to be finalized by the writers at home.
- Video Production: The technical crew successfully shot 18 video lessons, which immediately transitioned into the editing and quality assurance phase.
These milestones successfully fulfilled the project’s core objectives: developing camera-ready literacy materials, providing direct technical alignment to the writers and production crews, and finalizing resources right in time for the opening of School Year 2025–2026.
Participant Feedback and Conclusion
As the workshop drew to a close on June 3, a strong wave of fulfillment resonated among the attendees. The teachers and the entire development team expressed immense joy and satisfaction with the workshop’s setup. They noted that seeing their intense five-day labor transform into high-quality, concrete outcomes made the exhaustive process deeply rewarding.
With the Patnubay sa Pagbasa materials finalized, Key Stage 1 and multigrade classrooms are now equipped with powerful, contextualized tools designed to spark a love for reading and build a stronger foundation for lifelong learning.
